Is painting necessary, inside and outside
Let’s start with the outside of your Weston home you are selling. When a prospective buyer approaches your home and see mold or mildew on the fascia or the trim around your windows, they are not even going to stop their car. First impressions are important and regardless of how nicely laid out your floor plan maybe or how exquisite your granite counter tops are, if they don’t walk in, they will never experience the beauty of your home.
In the article “What Is A Corner to Corner Paint Job” I described the “corner to corner” paint trick and highly recommend reading it and using it if applicable. Another trick that works for your home front is painting or varnishing your front door. I prefer a semi-gloss paint that really draws attention to it and is easy to clean.
On to the roof, since we live in Florida and we get rain regularly, we also get mold and mildew. Our roofs many times will have black mildew on them and we really don’t even notice it. Well, your buyer probably will and many times not even on a conscience level, they will just know that the first impression as they drive up isn’t what it could be.
My suggestion is hiring a pressure cleaning service to pressure clean your roof, at least the front that is exposed to the road (if money is an issue). While the pressure cleaners are there if you have stains on your concrete or paver driveway have them pressure clean it as well. If you have pavers there isn’t much you can do to other than pressure clean it. If, however you have a concrete driveway, you can go to Home Depot and buy a couple of gallons of concrete stain to match the exterior of your home and roll it on yourself. This makes a tremendous difference in that all important “first impression”.
With respect to your interior walls and ceilings my suggestion is get a paint chip from the wall that needs touch up and again go to Home Depot and let them match it and get your old clothes out and have at it. Make sure you remember your drop clothe.
One last trick for interior walls that have baseboards that look bland and uninviting. Get a sample of the paint of the wall in question. Almost all painters will have put flat paint on your interior walls, what you want to do is get a semi-gloss paint the same color and paint the base boards. This will give that boring wall a little snap and look great, all with a minimum effort on your part.
